CONTENT:
Sachet. Sachet contains glucosamine sulfate 1500 mg.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:
Glucosamine hydrochloride is the salt of the amino-monosaccharide, glucosamine.
Glucosamine enhances proteoglycan biosynthesis. Glucosamine inhibits the
cartilage-destructive enzymes, collagenase, phospholipase A2, stromelysin and
aggrecanase. Glucosamine enhances the adhesion of chondrocytes to fibronectin,
counteracting the reduction of adhesion that is evident in osteoarthritic
cartilage. Glucosamine has mild anti-inflammatory properties that are
independent of the synthesis of prostaglandins and may depend on the inhibition
of the generation of superoxide radicals, of the activity of lysosomal enzymes
and of the synthesis of inducible nitric oxide. Glucosamine specifically treats
the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, reduces the structural degradation
seen in the osteoarthritic joint. Glucosamine is indicated for the treatment of
symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, spine, hands and other locations.
Glucosamine is more effective than placebo and at least as effective as NSAIDs
in controlling the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine is better tolerated
than NSAIDs with significantly better compliance.
